SoulofBrooklyn.com, launching June 18, 2010, is the revolution in Brooklyn Tourism Marketing that will promote locally owned businesses, cultural institutions, and neighborhood events that celebrate Brooklyn’s vibrant roots and contributes to the growth of stronger economies within its communities. The website and printed guide is projected to be the quintessential source to discovering the unique African Diaspora cultural and business renaissance sweeping the Borough of Brooklyn. The SoulofBrooklyn.com Breakfast Launch and Press Conference will take place Friday, June 18th, 2010 at 10am at MoCADA, 80 Hanson Place, Brooklyn, New York 11217 followed that evening by a Kick-Off Party at MoCADA from 7-10pm organized by Rae Holliday, Phaon Spurlock & Jasmine Waters to celebrate the launch will be a Soul of Brooklyn Week from June 19th- 26th with events taking place throughout Brooklyn ranging from Carol’s Daughter to EN Restaurant.

Through SoulofBrooklyn.com, the cultural explosion of deep African, African-American and Caribbean roots will be catapulted to front stage. SoulofBrooklyn.com will guide visitors and locals alike to the cutting edge fashion boutiques, rhythmic night life, fusion restaurants, cultural institutions, and art events taking place throughout Brooklyn. It will also provide information about the African Diaspora history in the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and the celebrities that made the Borough famous from Lena Horne to Spike Lee.  SoulofBrooklyn.com will continuously highlight Brooklyn’s distinctive arts and cultural panorama with a concentration on helping local businesses gain visibility and increase their bottom-line through advertising, cross-promotions and creative marketing partnerships. A bus-shelter and banner campaign promoting summer African Diaspora events such as the International African Arts Festival (July 2nd – July 5th) and the Caribbean Day Parade (September 6th) will coincide with the launch. In addition, a Soul of Brooklyn Art Exhibition has been organized at MoCADA with photographs taken by Brooklyn’s own, Malik Yusef which will be on view from June 18th – July 31st, 2010.

The Soul of Brooklyn website, guidebook and marketing campaign has been funded and supported by the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA), Deutsche Bank, New York State Senator Kevin Parker and SEEDCO Financial Services. According to MoCADA’s Executive Director, Laurie Cumbo, “Soul of Brooklyn is an idea whose time has finally come.  The opportunity to celebrate and market Brooklyn’s African Diaspora experience will not only give visitors a unique opportunity to explore the City of New York’s largest African Diaspora community but it will also give cultural institutions and businesses the necessary exposure to sustain and grow.”
