On February 11, 2011 I had the opportunity to attend Perry Ellis Fall 2011 Collection Show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week - New York. I was totally impressed with the show as I was last season show. The Fall 2011 Collection is all about textures and layering. The textures used in the Fall 2011 Collection were cords, cable knit and quilted fabrics. These textures mixed with earthy and muted color palette made for an interesting combination. I noticed that for the Fall Collection Perry Ellis focused much on the color spruce (blue/green mix). This color is great for the Fall as it works great as an alternative to the normal browns, tans and oranges, which we usually associate with Fall colors. Another great aspect of the collection was the layering. The turtle neck was definitely a staple in the collection. Could the turtle neck be making a return? I hope so, its great for layering. You can easily throw a blazer or a long sleeve over it with some jeans and slacks and you will have a warm yet stylish outfit. However, its all about the cut off the other pieces that makes it fashionable or grandpa-ish.
Some of my favorite pieces were the cotton braided cable coat, the wool blend grandpa cardigan (Don't let the name detour your!), laser quilted bomber and the wool/cashmere chalkstripe trousers.
